Lithium,(1,1-dimethylethyl)- (594-19-4)

1.General Information: Containers can build up pressure if exposed to heat and/or fire. As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Vapors can travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Material can spontaneously ignite (pyrophoric) when exposed to air at normal or slightly elevated temperatures. Will burn if involved in a fire. Water Reactive. Material will react with water and may release a flammable and/or toxic gas. Extremely flammable liquid and vapor. Vapor may cause flash fire. Containers may explode in the heat of a fire. 
2.Extinguishing Media: Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers. Do not use carbon dioxide.  Do not use water! Use dry chemical.
3.Handling: Use with adequate ventilation. Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Do not breathe dust, vapor, mist, or gas. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use and store under nitrogen. Do not allow contact with water. Use only in a chemical fume hood. 
4.Storage: Keep :Ttert-butyllithium (594-19-4) away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a dry area. Keep under a nitrogen blanket. Refrigerator/flammables.
